4 Reasons Why You Need to Fix Your Uneven Driveway

You notice part of your driveway is lower than the rest of your driveway creating a ledge. Of course, that is just another thing to add to your long to-do list!! While you may not think this issue is a big deal, it can lead to seepage problems. Concrete sinks when the soil underneath cannot support the weight of the concrete. This can mean the compactness of the soil has loosened over time. Here are 4 reasons why you should fix your sinking concrete.

  1. The first reason, and most obvious, is that it is a hazard! Trips and falls can happen causing minor or serious injuries. The last thing you want on your plate is a trip to the ER. It could also be a liability if people walking on your property fall according to this article!
  2. The problem will get worse. If left unfixed the concrete will keep sinking and become even more of a problem. With each rain more water will enter the crack causing the ground underneath to become less compact and ultimately allowing more sinkage.
  3. Seepage. Having a sidewalk, patio, or driveway next to your home that is incorrectly or negatively pitched will provide an easier path for water to seep into your basement. Leaving cracks open allows water to come in! When water comes in next to your foundation it could potentially find its way into your basement. If the issue is not corrected it will continue to worsen essentially giving more area for water to seep into your basement.
  4. Like it or not, having uneven sidewalks, driveways, or patios can and does affect the resale value of your home. Do you want the first impression of a potential home buyer to be affected? I would not think so. The thought would be if this is the first thing they see what else has not been taken care of inside of the home. Fixing up the outside of your home is a great way to entice the home buyer to fall in love even before they enter the inside. You can add value to your home simply by improving the outside space!
