Underground Downspout Extensions

When rain hits your roof, water flows into your gutters and then it’s transported to the ground through your downspouts. Maintaining a dry basement starts with effective yard drainage. It is vital to divert excess water away from the foundation. A good first step towards that is an Underground Downspout Extension. This piping system is inconspicuous and transports the water from your gutters to a more desirable location away from your house.

The Importance of Moving Water Away From the Foundation

A heavy rain will create often create basement seepage issues. It can also overwhelm your sump pump and cause flooding (an inch of rain on a 1000 square foot roof produces 600 gallons of water that is discharged through the downspouts next to your home). It might even lead to structural problems if the soil next to the foundation is oversaturated.

How Underground Downspout Extensions Work

U.S. Waterproofing installs underground piping from your downspout to a Bubbler Pot, which is like a mini catch basin that is surrounded by stone and pops open when filled with water. A full Bubbler Pot forces the lid to open, which causes the water to be distributed across your lawn. When the pot is empty, the lid remains closed to prevent debris from entering. Since it is below ground, the pot remains hidden.

Our Underground Downspout Extensions require no maintenance, so it’s one less thing to think about. They also come with a debris filter to prevent leaves and debris collected by your gutters from clogging the system. If your downspouts are damaged or undersized, we can also replace them for an additional nominal cost.
