Underground Sump Discharge Extensions
A reliable yard drainage system is key to maintaining a dry basement. An Underground Sump Discharge Extension will help transport water away from the foundation to a more suitable location. Your downspouts can also contribute to water collecting near the foundation, so underground downspout extensions are also something to consider. Since the extensions are below ground, the piping is safely hidden and not a blemish on your lawn.
Why Water Needs to be Moved Away From the Foundation
Rainwater and snowmelt can accumulate near the foundation (not a good thing) because of poor grading, gutters not functioning properly, or downspouts positioned too close to the house. Much of this water can end up in your sump basin, which is the pit that houses your sump pump. This can put extra strain on your sump pump, which is never a good idea. It can also lead to foundation wall cracking, structural issues, or even a flooded basement.
How do Underground Sump Discharge Extensions work?
U.S. Waterproofing’s Underground Sump Discharge Extensions divert water away from the foundation through underground piping to an area ten or more feet away, depending on the situation. It then empties into a Bubbler Pot, which is like a mini catch basin that pops open when full. A full Bubbler Pot forces the lid to flip open, causing the water to be distributed across your lawn. When the pot is not full, the lid remains closed to prevent debris from entering.
Why Chose U.S. Waterproofing’s Underground Sump Discharge Extension system?
Our extensions need very little maintenance, so it’s one less thing a homeowner needs to think about. Since the piping is underground, it eliminates trip hazards and it’s also much more pleasing to the eye (many of our customers refer to their above ground extensions as “snakes” - and who wants that!?).
U.S. Waterproofing’s Underground Sump Discharge Extensions come with a freeze guard, which ensures water flows even on those bitter cold days. A frozen (closed) discharge system is the worst of both worlds; your sump pump continues to run and could burn out, but it can’t pump any water out because the pipe is frozen and that could lead to water backing up in your basement.
