How Drain Tile Works
Drain tile, whether installed on the interior or exterior of a foundation, can take several forms, including round, square or rectangular. The shape of the pipe used to create the drain tile system is less important than the design and execution of the system itself even though some in the basement waterproofing industry claim advantages for one “innovative” shape or another.
Regardless of their shape, all drain tile systems work the same way – they relieve pressure and pick up ground water around a foundation and transport it elsewhere. Drain tile solves a multitude of basement water problems and is a direct descendant of the “French Drain” designed in the 19th century to alleviate flooding on farm land.
